Once Upon a Time Television Series
About every fairy tale we know begins with “Once upon a time.” Many times these tales are oral stories that have been passed down through generations and until some literate person decides to write them down they will never be lost. With fairytales there are many adaptations and spins that each other has added as they have been creatively inspired. “Once Upon a Time” takes these fairy tales and adapts them in old time , yet modern way. Each fairy tale has a twist that gives the characters more depth that stories from our childhood youth.
Characters that we thought were all good and fair, we see in “Once Upon Time” with human flaws that all that many can have. Other character that we viewed as pure evil, we see as complicated. The story of “Once Upon A Time” is told with a varied set of characters, but also those characters live in different worlds. Through magic the character come to live in the fictional town of Storybrooke, Maine. Most of the characters do not realize they are fairy tale characters but time leads to many different discoveries. Although, while living in Storybrooke, they do not realize who they truly are and where they originated, they all exhibits traits and patterns that make them similar to their fairy tale characters. Some of the character are not in classical fairy tales, but they are related to some of the story book characters. Like Emma Swan and her son Henry Mill, who she gave up for adoption at birth. In the pilot episode Henry goes looking for his birth mom, Emma, and finds her in Boston, Massachusetts. He travels the distance the find her because he believes that she is the only one that has the power to break the spell and help all the fairytale characters that are now living in Storybrooke.
As you begin watching the series, you begin to realize that the program seems similar to something you have seen or read before. No it is not the fairytales, but another ABC drama that had characters living in parallel universes-Lost. That may be no coinciding, because the program was created by “Lost” creators, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. Once again the duo have brought great television back to the small screen. As creators and writers to really know how to tell a story.
